Banana Bread French Toast

I’m not entirely sure where I got this idea from; I’ve either seen it on one of countless brunch menus, found it on the line (throw in that Internship reference), or somehow came up with this devilishly good idea on my own.  Therefore I can’t take full credit but regardless of its source, I needed to test this one out for myself! I’m not hugely into baking, but one thing I’ve come to master is banana bread.  Combining my banana bread with the simple egg mixture for French toast (where I included nutmeg, cinnamon, and a hint of vanilla) to be lightly toasted made for the perfect homemade indulgent brunch.  Give the slices a little soak before laying them on the pan for a few minutes each side.  In case French toast isn’t rich enough for you, using banana bread instead of Chala will surely do the trick!  Any recipe of banana bread will work but remember when you pour over the maple syrup you might want the bread to be less sweet just to …

The Locale: The White Brick Kitchen

It might look unassuming from the outside, but never judge a book by its cover; the simple white brick (duh) corner of Bloor and Euclid houses some amazing Sunday brunch finds. As you probably know already, either making or going out for Sunday brunch is something I look forward to at the end of every week.  Cheat day here I come! The concise menu is always a good sign; I say the fewer things on the menu, the better they have to taste…but this still didn’t make the decision easy.  After hearing the specials which were incredibly tempting and taking a sip of my freshly squeezed grapefruit juice, I decided on their panko fried soft boiled eggs to get me going. I’ve seen chefs and pictures of these fried soft boiled eggs, and I figured it was about time to see what all the fuss was about. Rather inconspicuous at the beginning, the eggs looked just like a giant hash brown from the outside but once you cut into that soft center, the yolk just …

The Locale: Mildred’s Temple Kitchen

If you’re not a fan of brunch yet (god forbid), you definitely will be after visiting Mildred’s Temple Kitchen.  I needed to check out what all the hype was about but with so many places to see and so little time…kidding; luckily it was time and well worth the wait! I’ll be the first to admit it, I’m a huge brunch fan; it’s probably the thing I go out for most in this bustling city.  At first glance, I was torn.  Mildred’s Temple Kitchen’s menu houses some drool worthy dishes but with the help of our waitress, who was so kind to let us know that we could split a single blueberry buttermilk pancake as a side as well as other helpful hints; soon we had an exquisite brunch coming our way. First of all, freshly squeezed juice? Yes, please. While waiting, I had some time to admire the décor that filled the lofty and slightly industrial space.  (I’m a sucker for high ceilings and lofty spaces) Although there was lots of room and plenty …
