Veggielicious in TO

I found out about this event fairly last minute and even with a very busy school and training schedule it was hard to get to all the places I had wished, but here are a couple places I tried during the event and my insights. Rawlicious Yorkville – A place that was already on my to-go list and a 3 course meal for $15; I was in.  My meal consisted of a zucchini roll, a couple fritters, and what seemed like a pizza.  I’ve had some amazing raw vegan food in the past, but unfortunately this place fell short.  Some elements really stood out while others were forgettable.  The pizza base, a thick green sauce kind of like pesto (but of course without the cheese), was really an excellent part of the meal.  Thankfully I picked up a salted caramel square which was good, but other than that I’m still kind of disappointed. Bunner’s Bake Shop Kensington Market – This was a great new find and I have visited there since Veggielicious because it was …

Classic Italian Recipes for the Ages

After a few moments of withdrawal from my travels in Italy, craving all those lovely gelatos and sweets, I knew the only place that was on my list for the weekend was Forno Cultura.  I was introduced to this place only last spring but I’ve made up for my lost time since then!  Everything they offer from breads, pizzas, cookies, and cakes are beyond delicious and in this case were successful in bringing me back to those tasty memories. To start, I always walk in and grab a broken little bread stick that they have by their bar-like area that overlooks the chefs hard at work; a good way to start my visit.  As I make my way around this time, I realize that they don’t only have their own products but sell a variety of olive oils, balsamic vinegars, and other garnishes from Italy.  The aged balsamic from Modena had my mouth watering!  If anyone is looking for some true Italian ingredients, I’d definitely suggest these guys.  Being from an Italian family themselves and …

The Bests of Italy

With school starting in less than a week, I’ve got unpacking, packing, and moving on my mind which consequently means the end to my travels abroad for the summer of 2014.  Through ups and downs, but wait, no downs; it has been a great opportunity in every way possible.  To conclude my trip, I can’t wait to sum up all my faves from the past 6 weeks.  So for those looking to travel Italy or those just curiously reading, enjoy! Best Gelato – This is a toss-up.  Not only did I get to try the best awarded Nocciola gelato of 2014 in San Gimignano, but I discovered other flavours that blew me away; and lucky for me a few weren’t far from home!  The chain Amorino, which I visited in Milan, had an amazing selection and incredible depth to their flavours.  Their salted caramel definitely came out on top!  Being a HUGE salted caramel fan, I can get a little picky at times, but I had no critiques, absolutely perfect!  The Gelateria delle Olmo in …
