Food Trucks: L’Assommoir and Dispatch

This week on our trip to Dorchester square for another food truck fix we visited another couple trucks!  Waiting for me this week was a truck I had yet to try, L’Assommoir Mobile.  Although I had really wanted to try their tartare or ceviche which would be perfect on a hot summer day, I was famished so I went for their bison burger to properly fill me up.  This game burger had a mix of spices that complimented the classic game-y taste to one-up your classic burger (not to mention it’s also from a truck!).  Definitely not what you have in mind when you’re thinking on the go!  To top it all off and make it a little more summer appropriate, a red cabbage, carrot, and apple coleslaw is in generous proportion on the side.  I could not suggest this burger more for any red meat lover out there but now it’s got me even more pumped to go back and try something from their raw menu! Parked right next to it, the Dispatch mobile …

Food Truck: Le Quai Roulant

Food truck season is finally upon us!  I had the absolute best time last summer going all over the city to taste from much anticipated food trucks in Montreal.  This summer with my blog still on the go, I’ll be writing even more about each and every one I have the chance to visit. Although there was a fair bit of delay in writing this post, my favourite photographer and best friend Brianna and I went to the hub of food trucks at Dorchester Square right downtown last week.  On your average day if you’re in the area, the eastern side of the park just north of Rene-Levesque will have three food trucks to choose from!  So if you haven’t checked out the schedule, this will be your best bet.  As we slowly turned the corner, I was so excited to find Le Quai Roulant, one of last year’s personal faves, to be parked there for the day. We both went straight for the fish tacos which were such a hit last summer!  Without disappointment …

In-between

In-between seasons can be so much fun in fashion but the drastic changes we’ve been experiencing lately has been throwing me off.  Before I left for vacation we were in shorts and dresses but upon return I had to pull out long sleeved shirts, jeans, and sweaters again.  Bleh.  I can’t stand the idea of bringing out my winter-y clothes again so I’m trying to make do with some of the warmer clothes I don’t mind wearing on a cooler summer evening. No surprise here, my Kit and Ace long sleeve keeps me feeling oh-so cozy without bringing out the heavy sweaters and this vest is something I can wear with just about anything in any season! To add a little more of a spring feel when wearing long pants, I like to roll up my jeans just a few inches; this little detail makes a world of difference!  Instead of covering it all up, the spring season requires a little more exposure to the sun. And that floppy brimmed hat; always a good accessory …

Montreal is awaiting…

A girl’s day in Montreal was all I needed to round off this weekend back home.  Not only was it an awesome afternoon downtown with my best friend but we have decided to team up for the summer to bring a ton more excitement to this blog!  Her awesome camera skills, my writing, and our shared interest in exploring the city will all be documented here in full.  In the meantime, we brainstormed, got coffee (and hot chocolates), and pizza for the perfect afternoon out on the town. It was a bit of a throwback to being in Milan when I heard Club Monaco had opened a new store and café on Saint-Catherine.  Just like every big brand name, in Milan, designers all have their own cafes named after them and serving up little delights; so this was kinda cool to be seeing back home.  The new store itself was eloquently decorated with beautiful tiled floors, glass walls in vintage-y framing and racks of their stunning clothes but it was downstairs that this café was …

Bouillon Bilk!

I had never heard of this restaurant, neither had I ever seen it whenever we drove past it on Saint-Laurent.  Regardless of its unassuming neighbours, the inside décor and food could not have been more different, in the best way possible! When you face the sleek exterior and walk through the door, the humble décor make the tables filled with cheery diners and the food on their plates the center of attention.  The bar takes up a significant portion of the space with neatly laid out place settings along the counter and a few bar tables scattered around the room made of thick, repurposed wood; the things I would do for a table like that. We needed several sips of our drinks before making any decisions.  Although the menu was short and sweet, everything sounded beyond delicious; even more so after hearing the passionate descriptions from our waiter.  Because we were the whole fam at dinner, we made sure to get a decent selection from their menu and taste around accordingly. I started off with …

The Locale: Marché 27

The last couple days have been busy; I’m still on the mend and I’m still working on adjusting my diet to accommodate my lack of chewing capabilities.  With this in mind and my sudden craving of tartare, our next destination was Marché 27. If you’ve read my food truck summary you’ve seen that Route 27 was a favourite from the summer and it happens to be that this restaurant is the mecca of it all.   (Here’s the link for those interested click here) On a quiet enclave of Prince Arthur just west of St-Laurent, a little cluster of restaurants were quietly starting to entice hungry lunch-goers.  Without hesitation however we had our sights set on this raw menu gem. When walking in, the minimal décor and chalkboards give the allure of a simple but stylish locale; banquettes run along the length of the room covered in windows letting in the natural light, flanked by grey, black, and white pillows opposite glossy chic, occasional chairs.  The chalkboards facing the section of tables covered every vertical section …

Food Truck Frenzy

After having had a little bit of a break from this blog and finishing up my whole moving process back to Toronto for the start of school, I realized that I needed a good kick-start to the whole food-related theme I’m heading towards; this being a personal review on the Montreal food trucks I visited over the summer.  I know the season isn’t over, so for those still in Montreal, planning on making a quick trip, or for those just looking out for next summer, here they are! Au Pied de Cochon Food Truck – It was a rainy day when I went to this place, which probably worked in our favour considering how busy I’ve seen it at other times –  keep this in mind.  I ordered a combo 2 which consisted of a drink, sausage dog, poutine foie gras, and dessert; lucky for me they subbed my drink for a coffee because I was just too cold (typical me).  The foie gras poutine was amazing!  I was amazed at the amount of foie …
