The Locale: Marché 27

The last couple days have been busy; I’m still on the mend and I’m still working on adjusting my diet to accommodate my lack of chewing capabilities.  With this in mind and my sudden craving of tartare, our next destination was Marché 27. If you’ve read my food truck summary you’ve seen that Route 27 was a favourite from the summer and it happens to be that this restaurant is the mecca of it all.   (Here’s the link for those interested click here) On a quiet enclave of Prince Arthur just west of St-Laurent, a little cluster of restaurants were quietly starting to entice hungry lunch-goers.  Without hesitation however we had our sights set on this raw menu gem. When walking in, the minimal décor and chalkboards give the allure of a simple but stylish locale; banquettes run along the length of the room covered in windows letting in the natural light, flanked by grey, black, and white pillows opposite glossy chic, occasional chairs.  The chalkboards facing the section of tables covered every vertical section …

Vancouver: Part I

My hiatus is now over.  A little weekend getaway for cross country nationals in Vancouver and a quick trip to Whistler was exactly what I needed after my short but hectic school week.  I have lots to write and so much to say about this exciting trip, but for now I’ll just focus on the portion in Vancouver. I arrived in Vancouver Thursday evening and without further ado dinner was in order!  Because we were on the coast, the restaurant Coast seemed appropriate with its huge and somewhat daunting menu filled with local seafood. After making our orders, we were presented with what they called prawn beignets. It took a little while to fully understand the pronunciation; to be honest I didn’t even recognize it as …

Green Tea Salmon Inspired by Jamie Oliver

This one’s been in the making for a while, my reinvented green tea salmon inspired by none other than my favourite Jamie Oliver.  I never seem to get bored of using Jamie Oliver’s recipes and as I use them more and more I think of different ways to incorporate new elements to play up different flavours, textures, or whatever the case may be.  This recipe of Jamie’s comes in his 15 Minute Meals cookbook which makes it so simple and easy to make! The type of tea I used is the only real stray from Jamie’s original recipe.  In his recipe, Jamie used green tea bags but instead I make a trip to David’s Tea to look for some flavoured green teas for that little bit extra. It started out with a pilot test; I got small quantities of three different flavoured green teas to test out and then went on from there.  Originally I tried out Roasted Gyokuro, Organic Countess of Seville, and Toasted Walnut.  Out of those, my favourites were definitely Organic Countess …
