Being Canuck

Man, I’ve missed writing this!  I’ve needed the past few weeks to gather my thoughts and take it easy, but I’m finally ready to tackle this beauty again. Embracing the Canadian in me while being out west a few weeks ago, I pulled out my version of the Canadian tuxedo.  While denim on denim can be a little overwhelming, to say the least, my modern twist is much darker combination than those found in family photos of the 90s (no offence).  Topped with a plaid scarf, I’m not sure how much Canuck I can get! Checking out new spots is clearly something I love to do, so my recent visits to Calgary have been that much more exciting as I spend more and more time there.  This record wall is just one of the cool places we scouted out this weekend and was the perfect location for this shoot.  Along with other restaurant finds and a trip into the mountains, I can’t imagine a better way for the weekend to have gone down.

“Do one thing a day that scares you”

Ok, so maybe not everyday.  But this quote from lululemon has been a constant reminder for myself over the past few years to push myself to the limits.  As 2015 has come to a close I’m looking back at the positives, negatives, and improvements that I can make for this year and all the things I wish to accomplish; this blog being one of them.  The ideas themselves scare me to bits!  Every post, every competition, and almost every time I introduce myself to someone.  Putting that aside,I know that what I’m doing and putting out there has helped me in a number of ways in the past therefore I continue to post every week (within reason) to get me to that limit.  Without a doubt, I will continue with this into 2016 and share everything I’ve been up to and what I’m doing to show others how easy it can all really be.  I can’t wait to see what’s next! As an aside, I’m glad the temperatures are finally dropping and it makes it …

Exams

Better late than never, right?! Just like every other student, regardless of how much you prep, the end of semester is always tough to take.  Even with all the craziness, I still try and post when I finally have the chance.  Essentially what’s going on here is my classic studying at home look that I’ve been reppin’ the past couple weeks.  I’m not normally into graphic T’s but this one clearly called to me; it also makes me miss the snow and skiing so much!  The best part though, has to be my align leggings from lululemon.  I can barely take them off even to give them a wash (shh!).  Probably the softest things you will ever own! Alright, now back to the books!

On a Sunday

Oh my goodness.  The last week has been non-stop for me and it has continued right through the weekend.  It’s getting into crunch time for a few of my classes as final assignments start to pile up.  Even with the hectic schedule I’ve been working with, I needed to get some fresh air this afternoon so I headed down to Bunner’s in Kensington Market for a quick lunch before I get back to the books.  This place is one of my favourites for something quick and simple.  Their pockets are easy to eat with one hand so you can free up the other for a coffee.  Talk about perfect! I also picked up a few of their adorable baby cinnamon buns!  They’re a little denser than your typical roll, but they’re delicious in their own way.  Whenever I’m down there I love picking up a little something to share later with friends or family.

Pencil Skirt + Sweatshirt

This crazy weather just won’t seem to cool down but I’m definitely not complaining; I’m still just wearing a sweater outside and it feels great!  Not our typical Canadian Novembers that’s for sure.  While I’m taking advantage of this warmer weather, I’m still able to show off a little without sacrificing warmth.  Wearing this pencil skirt is exactly that and better yet, it’s stretchy and comfy as ever.  Instead of dressing it up, it’s actually really simple to dress a skirt like this casually.  Wearing a classic crewneck sweater is a perfect fall way to do that; in my case, this cropped sweater wasn’t exactly what I was looking for originally but ended up being a total score!  So instead of looking like I just came out of an office, I think this ensemble looks even cozier while still keeping the tailored feature of the skirt going strong.

Après Ski in the City

For those stuck in the city for the winter, I can understand why you aren’t big fans of the cold weather.  But I know when the temperatures start to drop, snow will be in my future; more specifically, on the slopes!  Regardless of where I am in the winter, I’d almost always rather be at the mountain.  So in the colder months, if I look like I’m preppin’ for après ski or like I just got off the slopes, don’t take it as a surprise.  Layering up and wearing ski bunny gear is kinda my thing.  This vest for example is another one of those perfect pieces that I recently snatched up and can’t stop wearing!  To me, it screams getting cozy by the fire after a cold day outside with a beer in my hand and surrounded by the fam.

Baseball

In honour of the Jays finally clinching a playoffs spot, I figured why not throw in some baseball style to the blog?  I know there are lots of sports fans out there reading this, and dressing for the game or parties to watch the game can be tricky; trying to make sure you haven’t gone overboard but at the same time you don’t want to look like a guy.  Don’t get me wrong, when the Habs are around I’ll be sporting every piece I can possibly manage especially to get on those Leafs fans’ nerves, but that isn’t always the right strategy. One.  Especially if you aren’t a real fanatic, don’t go overboard.  I’ll be the first to admit that I’m not the biggest fan of baseball, but going to a game and getting into the atmosphere is a lot of fun!  So in this case, I opted for a pair of casual, worn-in jeans and a sporty T-shirt.  Going super minimal with a cap or subtle cue to the team for support is the …

Shadows

While the sun was setting, we still had some shooting to do and good thing we found these fun lights to play by!  Testing with proportions is always a fun way to switch things up.  I’ve always been a fan of jumpsuits because of the lack of thought needed in putting and outfit together; it’s just one piece on.  At the same time, the high waist and flared legs lend themselves more to the fact that playing with proportions is always part of fashion.  My legs seem to go on for miles (not complaining)!

The Gaze

While the stifling heat is finally coming upon us, keeping it simple with a white T and cut-off shorts is a must.  But what I’m most excited about are my new glasses!  While most of you probably don’t know that I need to wear glasses (more than 90% of the time I’m wearing my contacts), the doc has suggested I wear my glasses much more often; which brought me to this new pair.  The slightly cat-eye shape of the frames make them feel a little more chic but not too girly, while the tortoise shell pattern adds a little more interest than the solid coloured frames I had before.  Although I don’t have a collection of glasses, switching up the frames every now and then could be a lot more fun than I give it credit.

Fresh

A new haircut can change so much.  Although I only went a few inches shorter, I always like starting off the new school year with freshly cut ends.  This time I was really feeling the shorter length to give me pin-straight hair just a little more liveliness.  While the cut goes straight across, the clean look was the style I was looking for and could not be happier with!  (This top was also perfect for showing off the shorter length…and the tan lines)
