Café Kitsuné

After a busy holiday season, I’m so glad I had a bit of time to head home and catch up with old friends.  Reuniting with my photography genius Brianna (who did most of the photography for the blog over the summer) was one of the best moments!  After having visited the coffee shop in Paris two summers ago, I was told that Café Kitsuné had opened a shop in Montreal as well.  Since I had yet to pay a visit, it was the perfect time.  Located just west of St. Laurent on Prince Arthur, the quaint little cafe has an eclectic feel with an enormous and awe inspiring KITSUNE light along the back wall; it can’t go unnoticed from the street. Butcher block counters and tables were of course my favourite element and gave a cozy woodsy feel to the place.  With a couple warm lattes in hand and my favourite blanket scarf wrapped around me, the cold winter weather outside became that much more enjoyable! The Gaze

While the stifling heat is finally coming upon us, keeping it simple with a white T and cut-off shorts is a must.  But what I’m most excited about are my new glasses!  While most of you probably don’t know that I need to wear glasses (more than 90% of the time I’m wearing my contacts), the doc has suggested I wear my glasses much more often; which brought me to this new pair.  The slightly cat-eye shape of the frames make them feel a little more chic but not too girly, while the tortoise shell pattern adds a little more interest than the solid coloured frames I had before.  Although I don’t have a collection of glasses, switching up the frames every now and then could be a lot more fun than I give it credit.

Fresh

A new haircut can change so much.  Although I only went a few inches shorter, I always like starting off the new school year with freshly cut ends.  This time I was really feeling the shorter length to give me pin-straight hair just a little more liveliness.  While the cut goes straight across, the clean look was the style I was looking for and could not be happier with!  (This top was also perfect for showing off the shorter length…and the tan lines)

Summer Whites

Although an all-white-everything look would have been appropriate, I still can’t get enough of this top from Aritzia.  It’s great to see that the sleeveless-sweater is still on trend and coming on even stronger for fall!  Combining the neutral taupe and white went even better with a camel-coloured bag and long thin necklace.  While it’s obvious I like neutrals and classics, as seen here, the different lies with the play on portions; the longer tunic-style top, rolled up jeans, and big bag.  Creating this sleek and clean look required a beach-wavy hairstyle in contrast (not always an easy feat for me, but it worked). It took me forever to find a sleeveless-style top that fit the one I had been imagining therefore it’s even more exciting to see that Aritzia is bringing them back in new and more fall-appropriate colours again this season!  It’s well worth the investment.

Mandy’s

Not that it’s a secret but I eat A LOT; salads often won’t cut it but Mandy’s has got the whole formula right, even for me.  The once hidden away Montreal gem is now bigger than ever!  With their new location on Crescent, not only is the location infinitely bigger which now has more room to house a greater selection of drinks and snacks while keeping a quaint atmosphere to enjoy a healthy lunch.  If you haven’t given this a try, it is a must.  I went with one of my favourites this time, the October salad, which now comes in a gorgeous eclectic bowl that echoes the mix-match style of décor in the shop.  I’m still gushing over how much I loved the décor; the velvet banquet, the different styled chairs, stools, and tables, as well as the different wall papers are all combinations that I love.  So not only does this adorable shop continue to sell their renowned salads (and don’t forget the cookies!) but they have finally acquired a location to match! …

Distressed Denim + Tailored Silk + Crepes

While summer is in full swing and cut-off shorts are most definitely still all the rage, pairing them with more structured pieces can definitely add a little extra flair to a pair of shorts that is otherwise normally considered a more festival appropriate piece.  The structure in the cut and tuxedo tail of this stunning Rag & Bone top works perfectly with the shorts to contrast both its colour and shape.  Just like I’ve mentioned in previous posts, I love pairing things unexpectedly; therefore formal shaping in this silk top and cut-off jean shorts could not be more fitting. The setting of this shoot was also another surprise of ours to find on our continuous efforts to try as many of Montreal’s food trucks as possible! With crepes on our minds, we headed to the Creperie Mobile located right next to the McCord Museum with this fun décor to enjoy a quick and delicious lunch.  With both sweet and savoury crepes on the menu, we chose one of each to give these guys a fair …

Summer Cozy

Even in the hot summer months there are at least a few chilly days or nights.  Although the stifling heat seems to be coming in this week, that hasn’t been the case for many of my days and evenings up north.  The solution: a light sweater or two to layer up with.  My Theory sweater was another great sale find a few weeks ago (from the Bay) which suits the summer months perfectly.  The deep V and thin material makes it appropriate for summer while the length (which you can’t really see in the pictures) makes it feel like your big, cozy knits everyone cuddles up to on the coldest days of winter.  However, even though I’m wearing this in the summer doesn’t mean it won’t be a regular in my winter wardrobe either. Regardless of the season there are going to be many highs and lows, and while I’d rather keep my closet simple, I like using some pieces year-round to get more wear out of my favourites!

Pop of Red

After some heavy sun-showers that cleared the skies for the gorgeous sunset, it was another beautiful evening in Montreal.  With summer coming into full swing, stores are liquidating their summer collections just as temperatures are starting to rise and we realize we could actually use that other pair of jean shorts; timing could not be more perfect.  I’ve picked up a few pieces here and there myself that I’m also dying to wear.  Sheer styles are still very on-point and this lace tank top was a deal from Aritzia that I immediately fell in love with.  Paired with a military green vest and ripped jeans to play it down, this combination is one I’ve been toying with all week!  Regardless if you think the sneaker trend is still in or not, I’m going to continue to use day in and out.  I chose this pair (a steal from The Bay) because it contrasted with the regular neutrals in the rest of my outfit; the pop of colour makes me think of the fun summer season …

Ice Cream Dipping

I might have a slight addiction with ice cream; it goes as far back as a kid wanting an ice cream cake for my birthday…in February.  Froyo, ice cream, gelato, I just can’t say no.  Oops So on one of the few hot days of the summer so far, I headed out with a few of my friends to check out the bopping ice cream shop on des Pins just east of Saint-Laurent, La Diperie.  Although there’s no choice of ice cream flavour (it’s all vanilla soft serve), I don’t think you’d want anything else to compete with their decadent selection of dips and toppings.  Just like a regular dipped soft serve cone, the exterior hardens, but not before your choice of topping gets sprinkled on.  Their selection of dips was out of this world and ranged from white and dark chocolate, to more out-there flavours like Baileys.  I, of course, went with my personal favourite dark chocolate sea salt and topped it off with chopped hazelnuts which totally blew me away!  Another great combo …

Details

This week we headed to the Westmount greenhouse because of the chilly weather and check out some of our local amenities while taking in the beautiful landscaping.  Amongst others looking for a place to relax or get work done, we wandered through the various rooms in admiration as we took it all in whilst taking more beautiful photos. Because of the cooler weather, I still felt the need to throw on a flannel shirt.  For my style, it is of course my favourite minimal shirt from H&M that was not only a steal but is also just as soft and comfortable as any other I own.  Paired with another favourite cold-weather wear, my leather leggings, the longer shirttail make the look far more appropriate for day.  Unlike jeans, styling these leggings requires a little more attention to detail in my mind.  In this case as well as most others, a longer-styled top is almost necessary. Today I also kept my everyday wear consistent with my favourite rings and a pendant necklace.  The now pendant on …
